Book launches

A launch that turns your book into years of sales and new business for the company behind it.

Business, self‑help, and personal development authors hire me to run their launch so the book sells for years and brings in clients, speaking, and new business. I am taking on launch clients for 2027 releases now.

Tim Grahl's impact on our Give to Grow book launch was exceptional. The plan he developed with our team made the book a Bookscan national bestseller, generated over 20,000 bulk preorders at our clients and prospects and generated millions of dollars in business. Tim knows more about launching successful books than anyone else in the world. And, he's a joy to work with!

How I think about launches

When done right, a book launch both sets up the book for long-term sales success and integrates into your business to help grow it.

The goal is not a particular bestseller list, which has zero correlation to the long-term success of a book. The goal is to get as many people as possible to buy and read the book, so that it turns into long-term sales and begins to spread on its own.

I support the launch in three ways:

  1. Strategy. You get a plan built for your book, your platform, and the business behind it, not a template. In eighteen years I've run launches every way they can be run: traditional, hybrid, and self-published, with authors who had enormous platforms and authors who were just getting started. I know which levers move books in your situation and which ones waste your time, and I know how a launch should connect to speaking, consulting, and whatever else you sell.
  2. Project management. The launch gets done, on time, without you carrying it. Your team is already busy running the business, and so are you. Without someone whose only job is the launch, it gets pushed down the to-do list until it's too late to do it right. I come alongside your team, set the timeline, and make sure every piece is moving, so you can stay focused on your actual job.
  3. Unknown unknowns. You avoid the mistakes that only show up once you've done this before. Publishing a book raises questions you've never had to answer, and it's easy to focus on the wrong things or make a decision that costs you a year later. I've already run into most of those questions. For the ones I haven't, eighteen years in this business means I can get you an answer from someone who has, usually within a day.

I run the strategy and direct the campaign, and I work alongside your publicist, your publisher, and whoever runs your ads.

Ways to work together

Run the Launch

I own the launch from strategy through launch week and the months after, so the book gets the campaign it deserves and you stay focused on running your business.

  • Full ownership and accountability for the campaign. Every major call on positioning, timing, channel mix, media priorities, and publisher asks runs through me.
  • A plan built for your book and your business, with a week-by-week timeline from pre-launch through the year that follows, so your team always knows what to work on and what to skip.
  • Weekly working sessions with you and your team. I direct, your team executes, and I write much of the copy myself.
  • I work directly with your publisher, your publicist, and whoever runs your ads, so you get everything you need from them without risking those relationships.
  • A plan for the long tail, not just launch week, so the book keeps selling and keeps feeding the business.

I join six to nine months before publication and stay on through the months after. Best if you have a platform, a team or a publisher behind you, and a book that matters to the business.

Launch Consulting

For authors whose platform isn't big enough yet to justify a full campaign, and whose book exists to grow the business, land speaking, or get a consulting practice off the ground.

You get the same three things as a full launch, scaled to your book: the strategy, the project management, and someone who has already run into the problems you're about to hit.

  • An honest read on what this book can do, given your runway and where your audience is today.
  • A plan to use the book to build the platform, rather than needing a platform already built to sell the book.
  • Regular working calls through the months before and after publication, and direct access to me in between for the questions that come up along the way.
  • Clear calls on what to prioritize, what to let go of, which opportunities are worth it and which will cost more than they return.
  • How the book connects to the business you want on the other side of it.

Best if the audience isn't there yet, the launch window is short, or you want the smartest use of the book without overbuying.

How to Try Again — Steve Kamb

I worked with Steve Kamb to leverage his platform and influencer network to launch his book and make it an instant USA Today bestseller.

“Tim cut through all the noise and correctly prioritized the highest leverage opportunities with my audience and connections. … Not only did he tell me exactly what to do, Tim brilliantly also told me what NOT to do. … How to Try Again hit the USA Today bestseller list and continues to sell well after the release. … I can’t imagine running a launch without Tim.”
